Why Cake? My cake decorating has served as a vessel for building community and opening conversations about recent anti-queer and anti-democratic legislation.

Roe v Wade was overturned as a local chain grocery store stole my labor. I felt powerless. My only option was to reclaim my trade, and I began a series of performances involving cake, glamour, and queer rage. The initial performance began with a group of strangers decorating a cake with me on the streets of Washington. I dismantled the cake on the steps of the Supreme Court the next day as a group of security officers tried to intimidate me for using my voice. A series of attacks on trans youth, freedom of expression, and access to healthcare have ramped up in the U.S., including my home state of Nebraska. The performances have continued in response. I walk the streets of Omaha in 7-inch heels, 2 wigs, and a dress sewn together by 14 hands. I take up space as a visibly queer body in public and serve cake to those stumbling upon the performance. Let them eat cake, let them have rights.
