This incredibily unconventional form is literally one of my all time favorite pieces from the lauch and one of my favorite pieces I've created period. Although it may not look like much it is the furthest from my style I've ventured in ceramics in quite some time! Each fingerprint and pinch used to create this piece made permanent.  A fossil of my touch. The bottom accidentally cast the cake spinner it was created on, and honstly I'm obsessed. Like is it made by COPCO, is it a fine art object or is it a hat? Who knows! The phrases, "Whenever a door closes, a window opens, so fly on out!" that appear on this piece has found its way into every relationship and corner of my life. It's become an innescapable mantra and way for me to remember that doors never truly close, you just have to find a new way through! (Like I did with this business when I couldn't afford real clay so I went out and started digging for dirt!) The inside reads as follows

"IT'S FINE I'M FINE NO REALLY DON'T WORRY BECAUSE ITS FINE I'M FINE NO REALLY DON'T WORRY BECAUSE

NO ACTUALLY I'M GREAT I NEVER FELT SO GOOD NO ACTUALLY I'M GREAT I NEVER FELT SO GOOD

IN FACT I'M FANTASTIC SO DON'T ASK BECAUSE IN FACT I'M FANTASTIC SO DON'T ASK BECAUSE"

The phrases circle and spiral the interior of the piece creating a never ending verbal loop. Read it out loud enough times and you'll start to sound how I feel! And of course my childlike figure in the middle to let me know it really will be okay.

This collection is comprised of both old habits and new experimentation. I've spent the past 4 months working on paintings, prints, and a secret collection (soon to come!) Having all of this time away from the clay studio and instead infront of a canvas or with a pen in hand naturally created some noticeable changes in my ceramic work and the purpose I see it serving. I had 4 months to unlearn what I had taught myself and known as a ceramicist and I'm finding a new joy, curiousity and sense of playfulness with these pieces. Some work may appear more childlike and whimsical others more mature and serene. Collectively these works create a book, each page (mug, bowl, vessel, etc.) a new thought, feeling, phrase or idea. Each of these pieces is informed by all of the 2D work I've been working on behind the scenes for the past 4 months and is done withought planning, rather an innate emotion and necessity to share and the permanence of ceramics allows for these pages, pieces, ideas and emotions live on past me.

I had a lot of fun experimenting with photographing these with some of the paintings and sketches I’ve created and been working on recently! I always talk about how every piece I create informs the next and I felt like this was a great was to visually convey that!

PLEASE NOTE: This piece was made with pre-processed clay, not the natural clay bodies, which means IT IS FOOD SAFE!
