Since moving to Nebraska I’ve heavily struggled with my change in scenery. I’ve always had a special attachment to the land I was raised on and my natural surroundings. Growing up in a deciduous forest with endless mountains, valleys, rivers, rocks, and tree’s, I think part of me just thought everywhere was like. I never knew such flatness existed and I had certainly never seen it with my own eyes until I made this place my home. Coming to terms with all the beauty I lost left me unable to see all these precious prairie lands had to offer. A year later I’ve come to appreciate the flatness and even more to understand how important these prairies are. Threatened by colonialism and westward expansion, the prairies are one of the most endangered ecosystems on the planet and unfortunately are under-preserved and underrepresented. We must work to protect our prairies and there is power in depicting images of this place and the power in its pretty.
Recently I've felt creatively handcuffed by anxieties. These mugs and small ceramic works are an act of defiance. I put the fears away and picked up the brush. I hope you enjoy these simple yet impactful works. Each piece uniquely highlights different elements and aspects of my artistic style and together they showcase the wide range I possess in my style and expressions.
